This new selection of Fernando Botero’s paintings is a new and spectacular series of more than 180 paintings, 50 of them until now unpublished and chosen by the artist himself reveals the feminine essence of his work. Fernando Botero Angulo (Medellín, 1932-Monaco, 2023) was a painter, sculptor and figurative draftsman. With his characteristic mature style, where he represents characters and figures with an exaggerated volume, he obtained international success since the 1980s, being considered the most recognized and cited Latin American artist during his lifetime. The artistic creations of his authorship bear a sui generis and irreverent interpretation of the figurative style, called by some as “Boterism”, which imbues the iconographic works with an unmistakable identity, recognizable not only by specialized critics, but also by the large audience, including children and adults alike, becoming one of the main manifestations of contemporary art on a global level. The original interpretation that the artist gives to a diverse spectrum of themes is characterized from the plastic by an exalted volumetry that imbues the creations with a three-dimensional character of strength, exuberance and sensuality, together with a particular anatomical conception. An aesthetic that chronologically could be framed in the 1940s in the West, applied to plots that can be current or past, local but with a universal vocation, represented with a lively and masterful use of color, accompanied by fine and subtle details of biting criticism and irony. in each work.
